Self-Care is the New Healthcare

One day I was listening to a podcast, I cant even remember who now, it has been so long ago... and they began talking about being proactive in your approach to all the things that make you feel like you react to them. I felt like getting ahead of your reactions with a planned out response seemed to be a better solution to me for many things, including wellness, that I could get on board with and then teach to others as well.

For many years a sticky note hung on my computer monitor that said, "PLAN to Act, NOT React

It reminded me of my new mindset I really wanted to use to help myself and others get out of some of the sticky situations we may find ourselves in sometimes.

As I began to teach on health and wellness, this same rule easily applied to those things as well. What do I mean? And what does this have to do with health care?

When we take time to set goals, whether it is a desire for weight loss or a better self-care routine... it is so much easier to achieve when we lay out the steps, plan for the obstacles (like the holiday season ahead), and recognize all of the ways we (yes ourselves) will sabotage our very own success.... we can prepare for how we will accomplish our goals all the while overcoming the things we normally let get in the way of accomplishing our goals.

Taking steps daily to work with your body towards being its healthiest version of itself is how your self-care routine can turn into your health care routine.

Eating right, takes planning and intentions. It means getting rid of things that may cause you to choose the wrong snack or removing steps from each day by having one or two prep days a week instead.

Plan to get your body up and moving every day. Whether you walk, go up and down the stairs, stretch, run, yoga, or play softball with your friends... the only thing that matters is that you take time to get you moving. Stop putting the laundry on your elliptical or treadmill, you know you wont use it if its covered in other things you have to do first.

Take time daily for a self-care routine. Take a shower. Get dressed. Apply your essential oils, and your lotions and moisturize your skin. Drink all that water. You know your body loves it. Brush your teeth, floss, and rinse with that yummy mouthwash from your favorite manufacturer. Find ways to set healthy boundaries, say no to the things you don't want to do and yes to the things you do want to do. Sleep. Get rested up. Make sure you are getting in bed and staying there until its time to get up. You know you shouldn't be staring at your phone until 1 am. No one should be. Your brain needs rest and your body has a recovery program to run.

Take your supplements. Help your body out. The foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we use and all of the chemicals we are exposed to make for a toxic and sometimes depleted environment within our bodies. A gentle cleanse, daily whole food support, gut and brain support. How can helping out our bodies and being proactive in our approach to health be easier?

All we have to do is get on board now. Create a wellness plan for our lives and then move forward with the intention of doing it daily. Then it is so much easier to do. It is so much easier to feel good about ourselves than being mad and mean to ourselves because we havent even started doing that thing we wanted to do for so long... yet!

I have committed to my goals and using my planner for the next three months solid to accomplish some of the big things that have been on my mind and heart for this year. I know we all took a pause for the recent current events to support our communities and loved ones. But, now is the time to reclaim your life, your health, your goals, your future. Do not sit on the sidelines and watch the world go by while your dreams are still a whisper in your mind. Commit with me now to get ahead of the game. To set your intentions, create your vision and plan... design your action steps, and then move forward.. even on the days its tough. Let's do this together. Let's take our wellness and our dreams back and let's be ready to take the new year on full force without any fear or worries about what if...
