Keep it Simple

The famous quote often attributed to Hippocrates, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” still has an impact over two thousand years later.

With the above quote in mind, food can heal but can also harm.

Or perhaps you are more familiar with the famous quote "You are what you eat."

These quotes actually are both very similar in the point they are trying to make. What you eat directly impacts your health.

So what are you eating?

  • fresh fruits and veggies

  • unprocessed meats

  • cage-free eggs

  • fresh nuts

OR

  • frozen pastries

  • chips

  • processed sliced breads

  • square cheese slices

  • sodas

  • boxed candies

Your goal should be to strive to eat nutrient dense foods with low levels of sodium, sugar and unhealthy fats. Poor dietary choices over time can have real impacts on our health, and choosing more veggies, fruits and whole grains is important.

So how do you KEEP IT SIMPLE?

  • eat from the five food groups every day

  • keep an eye on portions

  • stay on the perimeter of the grocery store when shopping

  • try to eat more uncooked produce

  • buy unprocessed items more than processed

  • be able to pronounce what you eat

  • use spices to enhance flavor

Do you have any tried-and-true ways to KEEP IT SIMPLE? Please share!
